Worming
– Routine worming is not advised, only when necessary following a worm screening test result. We strongly recommend all tortoises are tested yearly, in summer.
Testing is really easy!
1- Purchase kit online, or from our Club shop available at all our events for under £20
2- Pack fecal sample following instructions provided in the kit
3- Return sample back to the lab following kit return instructions
4- Results take approximately 1 week (check email junk folder!). If all clear, there is no need for worming! If results show evidence of worm eggs, worming may be advised. Please bring this with you!
🐛 Please note that routine worming is not advised due to the harsh nature of worming medication on tortoises gut.
🐛 Worming, if needed, should take place well in advance of hibernation (no later than the end of summer). If worming is necessary after this, we advise postponing hibernation or overwintering.
🐛 Bring results on the day so we can best advise you. Not all signs of worms require treatment. Our on site vets and experts can advise what is best for your tortoise.
