Dear Members & Supporters,

The club has started listing tortoise care supplies on eBay to make it easier for you to access dried food and seeds. Especially during dry weather when relying on store-bought salad like romaine, rocket, baby gem, or lambs lettuce, adding small amounts of dried grass cobs and flowers provides important, natural dietary fibre. Because even weeds can sometimes be too lush, we recommend slowly introducing dried browse to your tortoise's regular diet.

If you are new to introducing supplements and dried browse, we recommend adding the smallest amount for an entire season. It can take up to a year for a tortoise to accept a new food option, but the patience is well worth it.

By request, we have added several new items this month:

  - Calcium powder: For mixing with Nutrobal for regular supplementation.
  - Granules: To help edible garden plants grow calcium-rich.
  - Chalk lumps: A popular option for supplementary calcium browsing.

Please keep in mind that if your tortoise is prone to seeking out rocks, chalk lumps, or cuttlebone, you likely need to offer more powdered supplement on all meals, including a little Nutrobal with D3. Captive tortoises have much lower access to calcium and D3 than they do in the wild. They need good levels of calcium to ensure a healthy system, including muscles, eyes, and healthy reproduction.
