How we work

As a team we are able to help you find a safe, knowledgeable, happy and long term home for a tortoise. We work closely with you throughout the process to ensure we find the best possible home, specific to your tortoise’s needs, whether that is one of our rescue sanctuaries or one of our many registered and checked homes.rehoming-and-rescue

Requests for visits to check a tortoise is settled or contact by phone or mail can also be specified when re homing. Long lasting relationships are often formed between keepers past and present.

Any tortoise re homed through the club is supported in trust for its whole life. This is conducted through regular contact, checkups and ongoing support. Tortoises cannot be sold and have to be returned to club if keeping circumstances change and become impossible or unsuitable.

We are also happy to give advice on continued care at your home with support from the club or training a family member or friend to re home and care for your tortoise if you wish.

Fostering a tortoise

If you are considering fostering a tortoise which has been entrusted to the club, please get in touch to request an information pack.Rescue-tortoises

As a keeper you will be required to sign to say you agree and understand all rules and requirements set down by the club. These include caring for a tortoise using modern keeping methods; that the tortoise remains in trust to the club and must be returned if circumstances change. Contact must be kept with the club and at least one yearly check up is also required.

Once you have read keeping requirements and asked questions you will receive training on keeping a happy and healthy tortoise. Once you have passed training from one of our experienced volunteers. Home checks of your prepared setup/secure garden will be made. Once all essential training and setups are complete, the club will discuss a good match for your home.

Please feel free to email us to arrange a chat or request further information. Questions welcome. contacts page
